Monrovia, Liberia – “Liberia NGO Networ” (LINNK), a coalition of more than 250 NGOs and civil society groups in Liberia, has committed to collaborating with Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, the recently appointed Executive Director of the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC).

Evangelist Stephen Norman, the organization’s national chairman, characterized Cllr. Barbu’s nomination as a major step forward in the WECCL’s formation in Liberia.

The group, together with its more than 250 NGOs and CSO partners, praised the appointment of Cllr. in a statement dated November 4, 2024, stating that they think that justice is the cornerstone of maintaining and preserving true peace and reconciliation in Liberia.

They claim that Cllr. Barbu would play a crucial role in the establishment of Liberia’s War and Economic Crimes Court.

However, in order to bring justice to the victims of the 14-year civil wars in Liberia that left an estimated 250,000 people dead and billions of dollars’ worth of property destroyed, LINNK has stated its support and willingness to collaborate with the WECCL Office in conducting a nationwide outreach campaign to inform all Liberians of the significance and advantages of the War Crimes Court to Liberia.

With the recent launch of the campaign in support of the Liberian War Crimes Court, the group has already begun the outreach campaign. It also stated that Liberia has been divided into five regions, and the LINNK NGO and CSO partners are prepared to begin the outreach campaign in support of the WECCL in the various counties.

Recently, President Boakai appointed Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu as the Executive Director of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) with immediate effect.

According to an Executive Mansion release dated September 1, 2024, the appointment follows the recommendation of the Search Committee, which identified Cllr. Barbu as the ideal candidate due to his extensive experience and qualifications.

Cllr. Barbu’s distinguished career includes roles as the Head of the Law Reform Commission and as Dean of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law at the University of Liberia, among other notable positions.

President Boakai, who is looking forward to the important contributions the new Executive Director will bring to the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court in pursuit of justice for Liberia, he expressed full confidence that Cllr. Barbu will fulfill the crucial role with unwavering dedication, a commitment to justice, and loyalty to the state following the appointment of the Dean of the Law School.

The President has, however, urged Cllr. Barbu to keep up her efforts to serve the nation with diligence, dedication, honesty, professionalism, and loyalty.
