As LAA Takes Blame, Apologies To Travelers.

Monrovia, Liberia – The administration of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) met with a high-level investigative committee constituted by President Joseph N. Boakai to discuss the recent Roberts International Airport (RIA) power outage situation.

Under the direction of Kofi Woods, the President’s National Security Advisor, the group is charged with looking into the matter and collaborating closely with LAA to provide long-term solutions that would guarantee a steady and dependable power supply at the airport.

The discussion follows a recent power failure that briefly interrupted airport operations due to a shock that destroyed the automated switch and impaired the transmitter line, according to a release from the LAA dated April 3, 2025.

The committee is supposed to look into the matter and offer suggestions for averting such occurrences in the future. But part of the committee’s job is to look into the power problem in depth and provide President Boakai with a comprehensive report and action plan.

In an earlier hearing before the Senate Joint Committee on Hydrocarbons, Energy, and Environment on April 2, 2025, the LAA and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) pledged to address the power supply problem. Additionally, quick action is already being taken to repair the technological damage brought on by the power loss.

The inquiry committee and the Liberia Airport Authority are working closely together to find and apply long-term fixes to enhance Roberts International Airport’s electrical infrastructure and guarantee seamless, continuous operations going ahead.

Following the event on March 30, 2025, the Liberia Airport Authority has expressed remorse for the recent power outage problem at Roberts International Airport and has offered its heartfelt apologies to all travelers, well-wishers, and impacted parties.

The LAA sincerely apologizes for any difficulty this unanticipated incident may have caused to passengers, airport employees, and other stakeholders.

The statement read, “We take this matter very seriously and fully understand the concerns that have been raised regarding the reliability of the airport’s power systems.”

They said that the scenario was unprecedented and that although steps were taken right away to restore electricity and lessen its effects, we acknowledge that more development is necessary to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The airport administration also told the public that we are taking firm action to increase the resilience of the airport’s electrical systems and thanked everyone for their understanding and patience.

In addition to offering passengers and stakeholders top-notch services, the LAA is committed to guaranteeing the security, effectiveness, and expansion of Liberia’s aviation infrastructure.
