Monrovia, Liberia – Madam Davidetta Brown Lansannah, the chairperson of the National Election Commissions, reported that the government has given the commission US$2 million to help the upcoming senatorial by-elections in Nimba County.
At the second high-level coordination meeting on election preparations for the Nimba County Senatorial election, on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at One UN House in Sinkor, Madam Lansannah disclosed the information.
NEC Liberia Commissioners Davidetta Brown Lansannah (Chairperson), ECOWAS Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, Liberia’s Justice Minister Counselor N. Oswald Tweh, UN Resident Coordinator Christine Umutoni, Barsee Leo Kpangbai, and national and international partners attended the high-level meeting.
However, Siaffa B. Kemokai, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Justice, revealed at the meeting that the Ministry of Finance has been provided with a USD $313,895 financing request for combined security operations for the elections.
Partners and stakeholders also talked about additional areas of help, such as enhancing communication, encouraging the participation of underrepresented groups, maintaining the election process’s integrity and credibility, and assisting with candidate discussions between political parties.
As a reminder of their duty to respect the agreement, they underlined the necessity for members of the Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) to restate their commitment to the Farmington River Declaration.
Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, for her part, stated that ECOWAS supports domestic observers through ECC and LEON.
