LERC Wraps Up Public Hearings on LIBENERGY Tariff Proposal for Nimba,

Ganta, Nimba County – The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has completed public hearings on LIBENERGY’s application to review electricity tariffs in its licensed areas in lower Nimba County and Southeast Liberia. The hearings ran from April 21–28, 2026, with six sessions held in Tappita City, Nimba County; Toe and Zwedru cities, Grand Gedeh County; Fish Town, River Gee County; and Pleebo and Harper cities, Maryland County.

Stakeholders had the opportunity to express opinions, raise issues, and offer suggestions regarding the proposed rates and LIBENERGY’s service provision through the forums. Participants called for the projected charges to be lowered, the service to be expanded, and delivery to be clearly improved.

The Liberia electrical Corporation (LEC), county superintendents, commissioners, local authorities, LIBENERGY clients, and civil society organisations were among the attendees who offered feedback on the proposed rate and electrical services.

In January 2026, LIBENERGY sent their tariff recommendations to LERC for consideration and approval. The hearings were conducted in accordance with LERC’s September 2020 Administrative Procedure Regulations, the Electricity Tariff Regulations, and Section 13.7 of Liberia’s 2015 Electricity Law.

Through the process, LIBENERGY was able to present its proposed tariffs, explain the underlying cost assumptions, and get input from stakeholders and customers. LERC Chairman Claude J. Katta reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to a transparent, inclusive process that reflects public input.

“The insights from these hearings will be critical to ensuring any approved tariff balances affordability for consumers with the sustainability of electricity service,” he said.

According to LERC, a definitive ruling will be made on June 12, 2026. Under the Electricity Tariff Regulations, the approved tariff will go into effect on July 1, 2026, and it will be in effect for three years unless the Commission reviews it. LERC reaffirmed its dedication to providing dependable, reasonably priced, and easily accessible energy services throughout Liberia and thanked superintendents, local officials, consumers, and all other participants.
