Signs Book Of Condolence.
Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has described His Holiness, the late Pope Francis Jorge Mario Bergoglio as a “humble man” that was care for ever being. President Boakai, speaking Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Vatican Embassy in Mamba Point after signing the book of condolence for the late Pope Francis, said the former head of the Catholic Church was a man who was humble and very concerned about the state of the world. He said the Pope will be missed because he was there to ensure that the world became a better place to live.
President Boakai claimed that the Pope pledged to travel to Liberia after he recovers from his sickness when they met in Vatican City. “It was a blessing to meet a great man who was concerned about humanity and the welfare of people. I had the chance to speak with Pope Francis on the war in the Middle East and the war in general,” President Boakai said.
The world awoke on Monday, April 21, 2024, to the tragic news that His Holiness Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church worldwide, had passed away at around 7:35 a.m. in his home in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. Many witnessed the Argentine-born pope (Holy Father) at the Easter celebration liturgy at the Vatican on Sunday, April 20, 2025, noting the pope passing was unexpected.
Vatican News reports that the Pope’s death was unexpected after he battled a serious bout of double pneumonia for thirty-eight days in the hospital. His passing signals the end of a convoluted and sometimes tumultuous pontificate characterized by audacious reforms, internal strife, and an unwavering emphasis on the underprivileged and disenfranchised.
The late Pope Francis, who was elected in 2013 after Pope Benedict XVI resigned, will be known as a leader who questioned long-standing customs in an effort to modernize the Church and make it more accessible to the faithful worldwide.
The Catholic Pope was the first Latin American pontiff and a transformative figure in modern Catholicism. For their part, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia (CABICOL) has described the death of the Holy Father as a “profound loss,” saying that it has reverberated throughout the global Catholic community, eliciting expressions of sorrow and tribute from believers and leaders alike.
