“I Choose Christ”: Benetta Dueh Takes Religious Vows In Pleebo

Reported by: Prince Saah

Pleebo City, Maryland County – In a solemn ceremony marked by prayer, emotion and celebration, Benetta Dueh on Sunday, May 31, 2026, publicly renounced worldly pursuits and committed herself to a life of faith and service after taking her First Religious Profession at St. Francis Parish in Pleebo City, Maryland County, officially becoming Rev. Sister Benetta Dueh. As the young woman officially entered monastic life under the Congregation of the Holy Family, the historic event drew together Catholic faithful, clergy, family, and well-wishers from all around Maryland County.

Bishop Andrew Jagaye Karnley of the Diocese of Cape Palmas officiated over the ceremony. Following Rev. Sister Dueh’s public declaration of her devotion in front of the church community, he received the vows and legally admitted her into the congregation. Standing before the packed congregation dressed in her religious habit, Rev. Sister Dueh made vows that symbolized her willingness to dedicate her life to prayer, sacrifice, service and obedience, marking a significant transition from ordinary life to a vocation centered on spiritual mission.

“Today, my heart is overwhelmed with awe and gratitude for the wonders the Lord has done in my life. His mercy and love have surrounded me from the very beginning, and today his joy overflows within me, for he has called me despite my weakness, my imperfections, and my limitations, and he has chosen me to be his bride. What a profound and beautiful joy it is to be called the bride of the Master,” she explained.

In her line of work, applicants publicly pledge to live in accordance with the principles and goals of their religious community, marking one of the most significant phases of Catholic religious formation. Bishop Karnley emphasised humility, loyalty, and devotion to humanity in his speech, challenging the newly professed sister to stay true to her calling despite the challenges and sacrifices that come with being a religious person. This calling requires sacrifice, commitment and complete dependence on God,” the Bishop emphasized.

While friends hugged, family members wiped tears, and churchgoers sang hymns to commemorate what many regarded as a unique spiritual milestone, the service turned St. Francis Parish into a scene of both celebration and reflection. Rev. Sister Dueh’s work represents not only her own spiritual development but also the Holy Family congregation’s purpose of pastoral care, education, evangelization, and humanitarian outreach.

The young nun’s dedication shows bravery and devotion at a time when many young people confront growing social and economic constraints, according to a number of guests who commented after the ceremony, describing the event as inspiring. Religious leaders at the event emphasised that religious life continues to be a crucial pillar in building communities and used the opportunity to encourage more young people to think about careers devoted to service, faith, and leadership. As celebrations continued after the Mass, Rev. Sister Benetta Dueh officially began a new chapter, one defined by vows, sacrifice and lifelong dedication to serving God and humanity.
