A group of Indian Business Men residing in Liberia, under the banner “Indian Business Chamber” has donated several food and non-food items to the Monrovia central prison. The food items include 200 bags of 25kg rice, 50 bags of beans, 15 Jerry cans of red palm oil, 10 bags of cooking salt, 10 cantons of vita cubes, and one bucket of chlorine amongst others.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Indian philanthropist Mr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva commonly known in Liberia as Mr. Jeety said the donation is intended to address a prolonged food shortage at the Monrovia Central Prison.

According to Mr. Jeety, the donation was the Indian Business Chamber’s own way of identifying with the people of Liberia, mainly those detained at the Monrovia central prison. ‘We want to commit here today, that the Indian Business Chamber will do its best to provide food to prison facilities.”

He said other prison facilities outside Monrovia should receive their share of the donation so that they can have some nourished meals for some time. The Indian philanthropist at the same time urged other business institutions and humanitarians in Liberia to help and do something for those in prisons.

For his part, Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean showered praises on the Indian Business Chamber for the kind gesture describing the group as a reliable partner to Liberia. Minister Dean indicated that the Indian Business Chamber has been working with the government of Liberia particularly in the health sector of Liberia through donations.
