Ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) endorsed independent candidate, Cllr. Joseph K. Jallah has been declared the winner of the just-ended Lofa County Senatorial by-election.
The National Election Commission of Liberia (NEC) Chairperson Davietta Browne Lassanah announced, that Jallah scored the highest votes in the election.
“Mr. Joseph Jallah, having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner of the Lofa County by-election”, NEC’s Chairperson stated, Friday, July 1, 2022, during a press conference at the Commission headquarters in Monrovia.
Cllr. Jallah obtained 22, 019 votes, constituting 36.46%, while his rival former ruling Unity Party (UP) Galakpai Kortimai obtained 21, 229 votes, constituting 35.15%. The vote margin is 790.
The election was conducted Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
But the former ruling party is yet to concede defeat, following the release of the final results by the NEC.
However, UP Chairman Amin Modad has called on partisans, citizens of Lofa County, and supporters to remain while the party analyzes their votes.
“As the NEC has released the final result of the Lofa Bi-election, we encourage everyone to remain calm while we analyze and compare it with our data. We are sensitive to all of your concerns, especially the people of Lofa”, Chairman Modad commented on his official Facebook page.
We reassure you that the party is committed to ensuring that our votes are protected and the election was free & fair, he said on Friday, July 1.
NEC accredited six candidates to participate in the by-election including, Cllr. Joseph K. Jallah, independent candidate, Mr. Galakpai Kortimal of Unity Party, MoMo Cyrus, independent candidate, Representative Mariamu B. Fofana, independent candidate, Mr. Sumo Kupee, People’s Unification Party, and George Somah, an independent candidate.
