    DESPITE U.S SANCTION

Monrovia, Liberia – The Secretary General of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee, has described US sanctions against him as a conspiracy intended to silence him but promises to be more robust. Speaking on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Centre for Exchange of Intellectual Opinions (CEIO) in Central Monrovia, Koijee declared he would not turn away supporters and revealed he is innocent of the accusations made against him.

“We say remain calm; we can certainly assure you that we are innocent of everything they have said about us. We can say clearly if this is a tactic to bring us down; we say try harder. We are more stimulated and prepared for whatever may come, but we shall not turn our backs, nor shall we go down on our knees. We are prepared to stand up harder than before. Please, I have come to appeal to you, hold yourself, remain very calm, and we will inform you subsequently. Do not take any action that we do not approve.’‘

Koijee informed the audience that he is more fervent now that the sanction has been imposed, adding that he will succeed no matter what the state does. SG Koijee also declared that he would oppose intimidation of any kind and support anyone who aspires to serve the Liberian people.

“If you come to work, you have our support, but if you come and say you will intimidate us and think you will have a monopoly over this country, rest assured you will be resisted. As long as we have breath in us, we will continue to do what is right with no fear.”

On the other hand, Koijee pledged to be loyal to his fans and thanked them for their affection. The mayor was seen touring the Monrovia streets following his segment at CEIO, receiving a lot of support from the young people.

There were severe traffic jams in the capitol’s streets due to Koijee and the numerous youngsters’ march, making it difficult for people to move freely across central Monrovia and other areas.

The US Treasury Department sanctioned Koijee on Friday, December 8, 2023, for allegedly inciting violence and being responsible for or complicit in serious human rights abuses as well as corruption, which includes misappropriating state assets, taking private property for personal gain, engaging in corruption pertaining to government contracts or resource extraction, or engaging in bribery in violation of Executive Order 13818.
