Monrovia, Liberia – Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General Jefferson Koijee said his party will oppose any attempt by the Unity Party-led government to conduct a witch hunt against former officials who worked under former President George Weah.
The statement from the CDC Secretary-General follows the indictment of multiple former officials on corruption charges by the Monrovia City Court on Monday, July 29, 2024.
Former Liberian Solicitor General Cllr. Nyenati Tuan, former FIU (now FIA) Comptroller D. Moses P. Cooper, former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, former Director General of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) Stanley Ford, and former Security Advisor to former President Weah, Jefferson Karmoh, are among these officials.
The Monrovia City Court sentenced Karmoh, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan, and the former comptroller of the Financial Intelligence Unit now known as the Financial Intelligence Agency to prison on charges that included stealing and economic sabotage.
They were incarcerated because they were unable to pay the required sum for economic sabotage and failed to submit a criminal appearance bond. Despite their notoriety, Judge Ben Barcon turned down their plea for a personal recognizance bail.
“The peace of the country is bigger than Mr. Boakai and his shameless and spineless risky mission. Any attempt to politicize the peace and weaponize the judiciary will be met with stiff resistance and defacement,” Koijee noted.
The National Executive Committee of the Party is in complete control of the situation, the CDC Secretary General said, urging all partisans to maintain composure in spite of the outburst against cidician government officials.
“We have complete control over the Unity Party’s pointless and inane attempt to damage the hard-earned reputation of the government led by the CDC at the time. The UP will be damaged and destroyed,” he declared.
