Labour Minister Cllr. Kruah Meets LAC Management

Monrovia, Liberia – Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., the labour minister, says he is excited to see Liberian employees promoted to top managerial positions as part of the renegotiated contract between the Liberian government and the Management of the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC).

The Labour Minister emphasized that doing this will help management in avoiding the cost of employing foreign specialists and allow Liberians to operate the business following the unavoidable departure of foreign managers.

Minister Kruah made the comment when the senior management team of LAC paid the Labour a courtesy call on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, to update him on the current renegotiation of their new investment portfolio with the Liberian government.

He stressed that the government, through the ministry of labour, is completely dedicated to supporting President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s “ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID)” by promoting investment to empower its citizens.

The Labour Minister went on to urge the company to make sure that it hires more women, stating that the government views gender equality as the cornerstone of the country’s progress and development.

Minister Kruah presented a number of measures his administration has taken to safeguard employees and job seekers when they are choosing a career path, such as the LiberiaWorks Platform and the Occupational Health and Safety Program. Additionally, he shared with the visiting LAC Delegation the ministry’s recent decision to raise the annual payments for alien work permit.

In an effort to lessen the physical strain that employees endure, Minister Kruah also urged the LAC management to create a new model for moving liters from one station to another. He stated that his Ministry is ready to collaborate with the LAC Management to create an excellent workplace.

Regis Helsmoortel, the General Manager of LAC and the Head of Agronomy at the Company’s foreign board, which is headquartered in Switzerland, earlier told the Labour Minister that his company was willing to give Liberian employees more opportunities, but advised them to seize the chance with vigor.

A number of Liberian employees have been promoted to crucial senior managerial positions, and some are currently stationed at LAC facilities in Sierra Leone, Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria, the LAC Executive continued, adding that “it is better to recruit from within.”

Mr. Helsmootel revealed that as of this year, the company has hired just eleven foreign workers and little more than 90 Liberian people, increasing its current local workforce to 3,300.

The Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC), headquartered in Grand Bassa County, will be the first stop on the Labour Minister’s upcoming nationwide evaluation trip of significant investment and business firms.
