Liberia 2023 Presidential Election Goes Second Round

Sinkor, Monrovia – Following close first-round results in the October 10, 2023 Presidential Election, George Weah of the CDC and Joseph Baokai of the UP will face off in the runoff for the presidency of Liberia on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. A runoff election between the opposition Unity Party and the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2023, according to the National Elections Commission.

The two parties that received the most votes in the first round of the 2023 elections did not, however, surpass the 50% plus one barrier stipulated by the Liberian Constitution to be declared the winners of the just-ended presidential election.

NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown-Lasanah declared the first round results on Tuesday, October 24. The CDC received 804,087 votes, or 43.83% of the total, while the Unity Party received 796,961 votes, or 43.44%, calling for a runoff between the two political parties.

The National Election Commission Chairperson, Davidetta Brown Lassana, opened the political campaign for the Tuesday, November 14, 2023, runoff on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the National Election Commission headquarters in Sinkor, Monrovia. The campaign will close on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 11:59 PM.
