Agriculture Minister Jeannie Cooper has informed the cabinet that Liberia is exposed to export production. Presenting at the just-ended cabinet retreat in Ganta City, Nimba County, the Agriculture Minister said Liberia has a lot in the agriculture sector which provides the opportunity for investors to look in the way of industrialization.
According to her, the ministry has put all implementing measures including opportunities for investment in place as they are open for production and exportation of agriculture goods, noting that by 2023, Nimba Rubber Company will start to export rubber and the construction of a rubber processing plant in Margibi County to kick start soon.
During her presentation, she implored donors and investors to trust and switch their attention to the agriculture sector which has a lot of opportunities for business in Liberia. Madam Cooper alarmed that Liberia is the new agriculture hub of Africa, especially with vast land for agricultural produce and production. The minister at the same time noted that transforming the agriculture sector will require time and trust which her sector is going through a process.
The Agriculture Minister said despite the COVID-19 pandemic, her ministry has been able to get a total amount of USD$139 million from partners to support the sector from 2020 to 2022. She announced that Liberia has benefited from the US government USD$40 million FEED THE FUTURE PROGRAM, and at the same time praised the Weah administration for its trust that makes the US government switch attention to the agriculture sector as good for investment.
She named some local production companies making head waves in the country, including J Palm. Madam Cooper praised herself and the ministry for doing well in the Weah government. She promised to take the agriculture sector to a higher level to boost economic growth in the country, especially the local farmers. She noted that promoting local farming is one of her ministry’s agenda.
