Emphasizes Leveraging Africa’s Vast Natural and Human Resources

Monrovia, Liberia –The Government of Liberia through the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti has disclosed plans to forge a mutually beneficial partnership that fosters growth and development for both Africa and Korea regions. During the just ended Korea-Africa Summit which was convened under the Theme: “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity”, the discussions emphasized leveraging Africa’s vast natural and human resources alongside the Republic of Korea’s expertise in industrialization and technology.

Speaking during a Special Press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Minister Nyanti said, the Korea-Africa submit sought to elevate both regions to new heights, focusing on mutual prosperity and collaboration to address global challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, health crisis, energy crisis and supply chain disruptions.

She mentioned the long-standing relationship between Liberia and South Korea, which began when Liberia supported Korea’s logistics needs throughout the conflict. At the same time, Minister Nyanti acknowledged the significant assistance provided by the Korean government in organizing the Liberian delegation’s travel to the Korea-Africa Summit, including public transportation and airfare.

The Foreign Minister emphasized Liberia’s efforts to return to its pre-war status and expressed interest in meaningful engagement with Korea in order to build cooperative relationships that would benefit both countries. The Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Liberia National Investment Commission represented the Liberian government at the Korea-Africa summit. The signing of seven Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Korean multinational corporations was a highlight of the tour. These MOUs seek to advance vital industries noted by the ARREST AGENDA.

These MOUs cover the following key sectors, according to a release from the Foreign Ministry: job creation, water supply accessibility, agriculture productivity and research, energy sector enhancement, and financial sector investments. Samdo Electric Energy, Korea-Agro Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, Korea SOiVA, R&D, The Africa Korea Economic Development Association, and the MAKE Group are among the companies that have signed these MOUs. Daehan Smart Meter Company is another. All of these businesses share the same dedication to significantly impacting Liberia’s growth.

The Foreign Minister expressed hope that the MOUs are essential and will significantly improve important sectors, raising the standard of living for Liberians. Minister Nyanti reassured the public that the leadership under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., is committed to the successful implementation of these MOUs.

The commitment aims to create job opportunities, positively impact the livelihoods of the people, and open up the country’s economy, thereby establishing Liberia as a key investment and tourism destination.

Minister Nyanti further stated that the government expects greater collaboration and investment between Korea and Liberia, particularly in areas where Liberia has a strategic edge due to its youthful population, abundance of resources, and administration’s emphasis on fostering a business-friendly environment.
