Liberian Health Minister, Dr. Welhemena Jallah, has earned a Blue Belt in Taekwondo from the Master Russian Martial Arts and Fitness Academy.

She was part of the 86 graduates on Saturday, July 2, 2022, held at the Liberia School of Wushu (Kungfu) in Paynesville.

Wushu (Kung Fu) is the term for all the martial art styles in China. It consists of thousands of different External styles including Shaolin, Wing Chun, Nan Quan, and Internal styles including Tai chi, Ba Gua, Qi Gong either using bare hands or armed with traditional Chinese weapons.

Nineteen of the 86 graduates are Shaolin while the rest are Taekwondo.

Dr. Jallah enter the school from the beginner level and obtained a White Belt before her promotion to the Yellow Belt base on positive performance and coupled with consistency.

She again graduated from Yellow Belt to Orange Belt, from Orange Belt to Green Belt, and from Green Belt to Blue Belt.

Following her graduation as a Blue Belt holder, Dr. Welhemena Jallah told journalists that her target is to obtain a Black Blue. She also used the occasion to encourage the public to see regular exercise as a means of healthy life.

According to the Health Minister, Taekwondo is a disciplined sport, adding that, she wants to see it being practiced in various secondary learning institutions.

“Exercise doesn’t make you live longer, but it helps to keep your body healthy. I will be glad to see most people doing regular exercise. The reason for which I’m taking Taekwondo very seriously is that I used to exercise regularly, but I was not actually getting the kinds of rewards. I can safely say to you now that since I started this sport, I have had a great transformation in my body, Dr. Jallah explained”.

“Again, my recommendation is to see Taekwondo being thought in all secondary learning institutions because, this sport will help still discipline in our kids, she added”.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Master Russian Martial Arts and Fitness Academy, Master Junior Pewee Russian encouraged parents to continue supporting their children to become great in society.

According to him, if the country will be better in the future, the parents themselves will have to stand up for their children.

” Today, our country does not have places like before where parents used to take their kids for ice cream. All the places these days are bars, which make it very difficult for children to come up better. While calling on parents to support their kids, I also want to take this time to appreciate the students as well. They have demonstrated total seriousness in this program. Lastly, thanks to our partners for their support and to all our instructors for their great job”, Master Russian said.
