Participates In GISEC 2025 Cyber Competition

Monrovia, Liberia – The region’s growing cyber security threat and digital vulnerability can be attributed to a lack of technical expertise, inadequate legal reform, and a lack of awareness, according to Victor K. Jarlwood, Jr., who represented Liberia and secured the country’s place among the top 30 teams globally to compete in the GISEC Global 2025 Cyber security competition.

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications’ Jarlwood Information Technology Cyber Specialist and the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) Cyber Security Focal Point in Liberia have called on the country and the West African region as a whole to cooperate in order to combat the growing threat of cyberattacks.

“West Africa cyber security space is vulnerable and under threat due to several factors, especially insufficient security provisions, limited technical expertise and weak legal framework. However, to address these threat, the government of Liberia and the entire region needs to collectively work to prioritize cyber security skills development, strengthen legal framework, increase awareness and collaborate with international organizations through cooperation” he noted.

Speaking in an interview with this paper over the weekend following his returned, he said that it’s very sadden that Liberia, like many West African countries don’t have a legal framework in acted to protect its cyberspace, especially social media fraud.

Recently, Liberia secured its place in history as one of the Top 30 teams worldwide to participate in the GISEC GLOBAL 2025 Cybersecurity, Ransomware Training & Capture the Flag (CTF) Competition — an event that shattered 11+ Guinness World Records, making it the largest of its kind in history.

The high-stakes competition saw participation from over 160 countries, drawing some of the most skilled cybersecurity professionals and national teams into a rigorous test of real-world cyber defense capabilities.

Under the leadership of Victor K. Jarlwood Jr., known on the scoreboard as “Cyberdon,” Team Liberia delivered a standout performance, earning 10th place in the individual category, a monumental accomplishment for the nation.

Reflecting on the competition, Jarlwood, a respected cybersecurity advocate and strategic leader, credited the team’s success to tireless preparation and a deep sense of national pride.

“It wasn’t easy competing against giants in the cybersecurity world, but we stood our ground,” Jarlwood said. “Being part of an event that not only united the global cyber community but also broke more than 11 Guinness World Records is something Liberia Team will never forget. We are proud to be part of this history.” he noted.

GISEC GLOBAL 2025 has been widely celebrated as the world’s largest cybersecurity training and CTF event, setting new benchmarks for global participation, impact, and record-breaking achievements — and Liberia stood proudly among the elite participants.

With this international recognition, the spotlight is now firmly on Liberia’s rising cyber talent, as the team prepares for a series of upcoming regional and international cybersecurity tournaments. Jarlwood is calling on government agencies, private institutions, and international partners to support Liberia’s growing cyber ambitions.

“This is just the beginning,” he affirmed. “With sustained support, we can build an even stronger cybersecurity force and continue to represent Liberia with pride on the global stage.”

This historic achievement not only elevates Liberia’s standing in global cybersecurity but also serves as a powerful call to action to invest in cyber education, infrastructure, and innovation as the country positions itself as a future leader in global digital defense.
