Liberia, UAE Signs Bilateral Cooperation Agreement

Bopolu, Gbarpolu County- A bilateral cooperation agreement was signed on December 28, 2022, in the city of Bopolu, Gbarpolu County, between the governments of the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Liberia. According to the agreement, it is to develop economic and technical cooperation between the two countries based on equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefits.

In addition, the agreement stated that trade in goods and services, investment, agriculture, including agro-processing activities, livestock, fishing, and the purchase or lease of agricultural lands, energy and renewable energy, mining and industry, infrastructure, construction and real estate, tourism, telecommunication, and transportation, shall all be included in the cooperation between the Contracting Parties.

“Taking into account the priorities of the nations’ respective economic policies, the Contracting Parties may choose to cooperate in other areas that seem more advantageous. The agreement stated that the Contracting Parties “shall encourage relevant specialized entities and business communities to explore opportunities for executing projects in various areas of economic and technical cooperation in order to carry out the Economic and technical cooperation under this Agreement.”

According to the Foreign Ministry, the agreement, Contracting Parties shall provide particular facilities and incentives to investors in both countries if such actions are in compliance with their respective domestic laws in force and their respective international obligations and commitments.
The agreement stated that “The Contracting Parties should, stimulate the participation of their business communities in international fairs and exhibitions held in both countries; Support and encourage the exchange of business delegation visits.”

H.E. Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet of the Republic of Liberia, and H.E. Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, Member of the Regnant Family & Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, United Arab Emirates, signed on behalf of the UAE and Liberia, respectively.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the newly dedicated Emirates Hospital Liberia in Bopolu, Gbarpolu County. President George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, and Dr. Aysha Sultan Aldhaheri, Executive Director of Military Health Services, UAE Army, United Arab Emirates graced the signing ceremony.
