Promising young Liberian athletic star, Saybah Morrisline Kolee is among several local and international athletes that have signed up to participate in this year’s Liberia Marathon.

Saybah signed up to run in the half marathon, 21.1k race on Sunday, August 21. Her appearance will mark the second time to participate in the competition, and promised to win a spot on the stage, for awards.

“As we approach the 2022 Marathon this week, I am in high spirit. I have trained for the last 10 weeks, and I’m focused and hopeful to win a spot on the podium. This year’s Marathon is a huge challenge for me because it’s going to be my first half marathon and my longest distance race, ever. I pray and ask for your support,” she said.

Last year, the emerging athletic star participated in the 10k marathon and finished fourth place, among all female participants.

She also led Team Liberia in the 3,000 meters race and Marathon at the 2022 Eastern Region Mayoral Athletics and Marathon Championship held in Kenema, Sierra Leone, earlier this year. It was her debut appearance on the Liberia National Athletics team.

The young athlete also known as Teka was part of the Liberian national athletics team that participated in the 2022 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II ECOWAS U18/U20 Athletics Championships in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The team landed back home with 21 medals- 1 Gold, 7 Silver, and 13 Bronze. The CAA Region two is one of the five regions of the CAA and compress of 15 West African Countries, including Liberia.

Saybah also won the best female athlete award in the 2021/2022 National County Sports Meet.

She became the new 800m and 1,500m champion last year, after surpassing long-time record holder, Lucy Massaquoi during the 2021 Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) Club Championship at the SKD. She finished both races at 5.41 seconds and 2. 33.28 seconds respectively.

The sixteen years old athlete is a student of International Relations at the Best Brains International University.
