Mauritania Football Federation Pulls out of WAFU zone A U15 Boys Championship

Mauritania Football Federation has pulled out of the ongoing 2022 WAFU Zone A U15 Boys Championship which is taking place in Liberia.

Their decision was based on age cheating by some of the participating countries and for the safety of their boys.

The participants include, hosts Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Mauritania.

Mauritania was beaten 6-0 on Thursday, August 18, 2022, by Sierra Leone at the SKD Sports Complex. Their next match against Liberia today Friday, August 19, 2022, at the ATS Sports Stadium, is to be determined by the organizers at 10 AM, while Sierra Leone meets Senegal at 8 AM.

In the opening match of the competition, Liberia came from behind twice to settle for a 3-3 draw against Senegal.

The Senegalese took a 2-0 lead in the 9th and 14th minutes from Ibrahim Sow and Yaya Meme before Saah Moses pulled a goal back in the 18th minute to end the first half 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

Early in the second half, Moses Toe had the opportunity to level the score from the spot kick but his effort was denied by the goalkeeper, Gabriel Biangwich.

A few minutes later, Abinego Gborlee leveled the score with an easy finish in the 18-yard box, but their celebration did not last longer as Ibrahim Sow restored Senegal’s lead from a spot kick to complete his double.

However, substitute Lee Zeogar scored in the final minute of injury time to save Liberia from an embarrassing defeat which end the match at 3-3.
