Monrovia-Farsedu Logan 14th minute penalty against Nigeria’s Rivers United FC was insufficient to redeem Watanga FC from an exit of the 2022/ 2023 CAF Total energies Champions League preliminary qualifiers.

The Liberian Champions needed a 4-0 win on Sunday, September 18 afternoon at the SKD Sports Stadium to qualify to the next stage of the competition after losing 3-0 in the first leg in Nigeria.

Despite their hunger to deliver in front of their home fans, they were limited to few chances by their opponents who almost got an equalizer in the second half.

Following the climax of the match, Watanga FC Coach, Cooper Sannah in an interview with journalists indicated that their defeat to the Nigerians is characterized by the experience of his players.

” We lost because most of my players have not had this experience of CAF Champions League, but trust me, we will do better next year if we win the LFA Cup or the national league at the end of the 2022/ 2023 league season, Cooper said”.

LISCR FC was also beaten 3-1on Sunday, September 18 in Ivory Coast by SC Gagnoa in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup second leg.

LFA 2021/2022 Petro Trade Cup winner took the lead in the opening minutes of the first half through Sekou Sheriff popularly known as “Ball passer” but the Ivorian equalized before the end of the first half and completed the comeback in the second half.

The first leg drew zero all at the SKD on September 11, 2022, in Liberia which means SC Gagnoa progressed 3-1 on aggregate.

However, Sierra Leonean Champions, FC Kallon produced a 3-0 victory over Benin’s Bluffles FC in the CAF Confederation Cup at the SKD Stadium on Saturday, September 17, 2022, to win 4-0 on aggregate after securing a 1-0 win away in the first leg. Mahmoud Fofana scored twice while Alie Conteh scored the third goal. The Sierra Leonean are using the SKD as their home venue because their stadium is under renovation.
