As CG Jallah Applauds Committed Taxpayers and Stakeholders
Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has expressed its sincere gratitude to all citizens for their steadfast dedication to meeting their tax commitments, which is significantly boosting the nation’s efforts to collect taxes. The LRA has successfully collected US$513.8 million as of September 30, 2024, or 74% of the US$694.4 million total domestic revenue envelope. This is a 12% increase in domestic revenue over the same time the previous year. The amount collected exceeds the revenue target for the first half of the year by US$54.3 million.
The planned national budget for 2024 is $738.86 million, of which US$696.4 million (pre-recast) is anticipated to come from domestic tax revenue and US$42.4 million is anticipated from outside assistance. The LRA has not yet received any funding from outside sources, indicating that all of the money it has gathered thus far came from law-abiding citizens. In order to meet the financial objectives, domestic income collection is essential, and Liberia’s taxpayers have made significant contributions, which are duly acknowledged by LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah.
The LRA is still on track to fulfill its revenue objective for 2024, having already collected $513.8 million of the pre-recast annual domestic revenue target of $696.4 million. Under the skillful direction of Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah, whose strategic vision has positioned the LRA as a vital participant in promoting national growth through enhanced revenue mobilization, the LRA has steadily advanced in domestic revenue collection, as seen by this noteworthy milestone. The LRA has continuously outperformed its monthly income collections compared to the same time in 2023 since CG Jallah took over in March 2024. The organization is dedicated to hitting the one billion milestone in the upcoming years.
In addition to the dedication of taxpayers, the LRA recognizes the priceless contributions of its committed management team, diligent workers, and outside partners. Good relationships with other government Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs) in charge of revenue collecting serve to further bolster these efforts. By supporting the government’s ability to raise fiscal expenditure on infrastructure, public services, and other national objectives, this combined effort seeks to further Liberia’s development goal.
“We are encouraged by the progress we’ve made so far,” CG Jallah remarked, “but we are not complacent. We remain focused on achieving even greater results in the final months of this year. I commend every taxpayer, our staff, and all our revenue generating counterpart entities, partners and stakeholders for their tireless contributions. Together, we are building a stronger foundation for Liberia’s future.”
“In light of the recent barrage of negative propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation targeting the LRA and its leadership,” CG Jallah further remarked, “I urge our staff, counterpart entities, stakeholders, and the general public to remain focused on our shared commitment to increasing domestic revenue. It is essential that we do not allow these distractions to undermine our unity, our trust in one another, or our commitment to the values that define us. These external forces seek to sow doubt and disrupt the important work we are doing together for our country. I strongly encourage you to verify any questionable information through reliable internal sources and remain steadfast in your roles as key contributors to our ongoing success. Let us continue to move forward with resilience, knowing that our collective strength will overcome these challenges.”
The LRA restates its commitment to facilitating compliance, streamlining tax procedures, and maintaining operational openness. The Authority is still investing in digitization projects as part of its continuous efforts to plug revenue leakages, minimize bottlenecks, and expedite tax payments.
In the future, the LRA plans to step up its taxpayer education and outreach initiatives to make sure that more people and companies are aware of their tax responsibilities and how their contributions affect the growth of the country.
The National Taxpayer Appreciation celebrations in November, which will celebrate the nation’s highest-achieving and most compliant taxpayers for their significant contributions to Liberia’s advancement, will take place prior to the LRA’s commendation of taxpayers.
