Japan – Liberia’s Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, recently remarked on the 27-year collaboration between Japan and the World Food Program (WFP) in Liberia on the fringes of TICAD9. Through this collaboration, he said, smallholder farmers have been reinforced, Bong County’s rice yields have doubled, and the Home-Grown School Feeding program has expanded.
On the topic “Cultivating the Future Through a Co-Creative Partnership: The Challenges of WFP and MAFF Toward Resilient Food Systems in West Africa,” the TICAD9 Side Event was co-hosted by the Government of Japan and the World Food Programme (WFP).

According to Minister Nuetah, the WFP and Japan’s actions have strengthened rural communities’ resilience and enhanced food security by giving farmers particularly women access to organized markets. In order to create a more sustainable and inclusive agricultural future, he stated that the government of Liberiaย is prepared to expand collaboration with Japan, the World Food Program, and all other partners.
In addition to restating Liberia’s commitment to promoting sustainable food systems and empowering smallholder farmers, Nuetahย reiterated the need to collaborate with WFP in order to guarantee farmers sustainable market possibilities and wholesome meals for children. “We remain committed to working with Japan to scale up sustainable investments in Liberiaโs agriculture sector,” said Minister Nuetah.
