Liberia Youth and Sports Minister, D. Zeogar Wilson has taken responsibility of the ban placed on the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex by the Confederation of Africa Football Association couple with the lack of improvement in sporting activities in the country.
The Confederation of African Football maintained its ban of the SKD for not reaching the standards due to the poor condition of the nation’s only largest sports stadium which has led Liberia to spending thousands of US dollars to play its home games in other countries. CAF’s Ugandan Club Licensing Officer, Ivan Bayige Kintu on October 20, 2021, inspected the stadium and informed the Liberian football authorities that the SKD Stadium does not fully comply with CAF Stadium minimum requirements to host international matches.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information special press briefing Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in Monrovia, Minister Wilson noted that the banned of the SKD Stadium by CAF and declining of sporting activities across the country is due to his inability to preparedly supervise and manage the affairs of the ministry.
The minister owning to the cause of no improvement in Liberia’s sporting activities come when many Liberian accused President Weah of not promoting sports as a sportsman. The Liberian Leader who once served as World Best, African Best, European Best and Ballon d’Or holder in the country is unable to really improve sports in the country.
