MoD Concludes Phase One of SGBV Awareness Campaign in Zwedru.

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh – Phase One of the Ministry of National Defense’s Department of Gender and Social Inclusion’s awareness campaign on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, has been successfully completed.

Military troops, their dependents, and civilian employees were the focus of this first phase, which was conducted at Camp Whisnant. Raising awareness of the negative impacts of SGBV and promoting zero-tolerance, respectful, and accountable culture were the main goals. The significance of reporting abuse and the necessity of strong preventative programs were explained to the participants.

Additionally, the campaign emphasized the vital role that leadership plays in supporting these initiatives, especially the dedication of Brigadier General Geraldine George (Rtd.), who remains a steadfast advocate for the establishment of a secure, welcoming environment that respects women’s rights. Voinjama in Lofa County is set to host the campaign’s second phase. The input gathered from Voinjama and Zwedru will help the Department of Gender and Social Inclusion create regulations that effectively prevent abuse in all military installations.

In Liberia, sexual and gender-based violence continue to be a serious problem that affects communities and families. The Ministry of National Defense, however, is still dedicated to creating a defense industry that respects human dignity, encourages gender equality, and upholds a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual and gender-based violence in all of its facilities, led by Brig. Gen. Geraldine George (Rtd.).
