Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Education promises to cancel the permits of any institutions that infringe by charging students flexibility fees as the West African Senior Secondary School Exam approaches.

Assistant Minister for Teachers Education Clifford Konah disclosed on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, on ELBC, the nation’s national broadcasting network. He stated that it is unconstitutional and unethical for school administrators to collect flexibility fees, and that doing so degrades the standard of education in the nation.

He added that testing the students’ academic aptitude rather than encouraging laziness is the goal of the general exams.

Asst. Minister Konah cautioned parents who supported flexibility fees to reconsider, stressing that the best way to empower children is to give them control over their work.

Assistant Minister for Teachers Education, Clifford Konah, pleaded with educators to follow the Ministry’s pedagogical guidelines and refrain from taking advantage of students or requiring sex in exchange for good grades.
