DESPITE REQUEST TO EXTEND THE DATE

The National Elections Commission has concluded phase one of the biometric Voter registration in six of the fifteen counties in the country despite calls from the public for extension of the process. Phase one of the BVR Process which commenced on Monday, March 20, 2023, officially came to an end on Sunday evening April 9, 2023, with 1,065 Voter Registration Centers in Bomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Bassa, Grand Cape Mount, Margibi, and Montserrado Counties.

Prior to the exercise’s conclusion, reports of technological difficulties at few BVR locations across the nation, breakdown of biometric equipment, delay in registration of potential voters, low internet system in some areas among other concerns prompted voters to advise the National Elections Commission to extend the registration procedure.

According to the NEC Chairperson Madam Davidetta Brown Lassana, phrase two of the exercise is expected to take place in Bong, Lofa, Nimba, Maryland, Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Rivercess, and River Gee Counties.
The process is expected to start on Friday April 21, 2023, across the country.
