A Group of Nimba Citizens have petitioned the Legislature to reject the new Arcelor Mittal deal submitted to that august body by the Executive which calls for amendments to the Mineral Development Agreement.

Gabriel Toh, the spokesman of the Nimba citizens in the petition submitted on Thursday wants the government to abandon the new deal and ensure the steel company live up to its MDA.

He called on the legislature to ensure that Arcelor Mittal implements its social and economic obligations to the people of Liberia as well as increment in funding provided to the University of Liberia.

Receiving the petition, the chair of the House’s Committee on Petition, Gonpue Kargon commended the Nimba Citizens for the petition saying their plights will be prioritized by the House of Representatives.
