Says “Liberians Don’t want Liberia To Succeed

Monrovia, Liberia – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia’s (NPHIL) director general has frowned at Liberians who do not wish for the nation’s prosperity. The statement “Some Liberians don’t want Liberia to succeed; so, they Connive and Conspire against true Patriots who Fight Against CORRUPTION” was posted on Facebook by Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Dr. Nyan’s tweet was made few days after The Independent newspaper published an article titled “Corruption Backfires At NPHIL” on January 15, 2025.Several top officials were suspended without pay, and two were fired.

According to the article “The Independent Newspaper,” Dr. Dougbeh Christopher Nyan, the director general of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), fired two employees and placed numerous others on unpaid leave.

The affected staffs are said to be involved in the unauthorized removal of 11 vehicles from the NPHIL compound and illegally selling them. Following many days of inquiry, a seven-member inquiry Committee that included the Liberia National Police, the Internal Audit Agency, senior staff members, and the NPHIL Senior Management Team decided to suspend and fire.

Pewee Quaqua, Director of Logistics, and George Watson, Special Assistant to the Deputy Director for Administration, are among the NPHIL employees whose employment was terminated. Logistics Deputy Director Darlington Bah was placed on indefinite leave.

Additionally, the Director General suspended the following drivers for three months without pay under the Investigation Committee’s directive. Jerome Ponney, Kennedy Gayflor, and Alexander Jisay.

According to the NPHIL Investigation Committee, President Joseph Boakai should fire Dr. Adams K. Lincoln, the Deputy Director General for Administration, for allegedly orchestrating the illegal removal and disposal of NPHIL vehicles and for regularly fabricating General Services Agency (GSA) paperwork in order to obtain personal ownership of an NPHIL vehicle.

Under my leadership, corruption will not exist at the NPHIL since it could jeopardize the progress we are making here. We will work to uphold the NPHIL’s integrity and standards, Dr. Nyan said. The impacted workers have since been turned over by the NPHIL to the Ministry of Justice for additional action in the return of the government property.

In order to eradicate corruption, safeguard the integrity of our organization, and advance the nation’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, Dr. Nyan underlined, “I fervently urge the NPHIL Board of Directors and the Ministry of Justice to support these patriotic actions of the NPHIL leadership.”
