The Liberia National Police on Thursday fired tear-gas canisters to disperse peaceful protesters who had gathered at the LNP headquarters in continuation of demand for justice for the death of Ms. Prince Cooper and others.
The protesters, mostly women, dressed in black with placards were chanting “We Want Justice” before they were dislodged by officers of the LNP.
The use of tear gas by the police came minutes after the protesters grouped themselves on the other side of the Capitol By-pass road leading to Jallah’s Town community.
Seven persons were then arrested and taken to a police station in Sinkor including the mother and family Doctor who is also the spokesperson of the late Princess Cooper family.
The protesters’ spokesman Stephen Varkpor told reporters that they had gone to the LNP headquarters to read their petition statement at the climax of their three-day-long protest.
He accused the officers of using tear gas before firing live bullets at protesters.
For his part, Momo Senah, a cousin to the late Princess Cooper, expressed frustrations with the country’s justice system and said President Weah was leading a lawless country.
We witnessed the police firing teargas but cannot verify claims that officers fired live bullets amongst the protesters.
The Liberia National Police has not responded to these latest allegations.
