Potupo District, River Gee – The Potupo District’s Jayproken Clinic will be operational in early January 2026 after being closed for several months owing to damage from a powerful storm in April. The clinic is the only dependable healthcare institution for several local villages. Its shutdown left thousands of people without vital medical care.

The partial government shutdown produced a major gap in healthcare services, which prompted local leaders and residents to petition county officials for fast intervention. River Gee’s Electoral District 2 representative, Isaac Boy Choloplay Wou, intervened by providing supplies to aid with the clinic’s reconstruction.
He supplied 15 bundles of zinc to repair the damaged roof in the middle of August, which sped the construction work. The Ministry of Health, through the River Gee County Health Team, has mostly sponsored and coordinated the larger rebuilding effort, although the Representative’s donation helped with immediate needs.
This funding involves extensive renovations and the installation of new sanitation and hygiene systems to help the clinic prepare for future storms. Dr. Pauline Weah Medeh, River Gee County Health Officer, said, “These improvements restore the clinic’s ability to serve the public and strengthen its resilience against extreme weather.”
The Jayproken Clinic is one of numerous medical institutions in the county undergoing renovations with assistance from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, according to Dr. Medeh. Renovations are also under place at Gbeapo, Kanweaken, and Sarbo Comprehensive Health Centers, among other facilities.
During the clinic’s closure, residents of Jayproken and other areas had to make long journeys and pay high costs to get to other medical facilities. Without nearby healthcare, vulnerable groups like pregnant women, children, and the elderly were at higher danger.
For many families, the clinic’s reopening offers much-needed relief. Health officials said, the clinic will be open to the public in January when the last repairs are made this month, giving the Potupo District inhabitants with important medical services again.
The Jayproken Clinic is one of the twenty medical facilities in River Gee County. Fish-Town Hospital continues to be the principal hospital for referrals in the county. The reopening of the Jayproken Clinic, according to local officials, is a big step toward expanding access to healthcare in one of Liberia’s most underprivileged communities.
