Pres. Boakai depart Liberia to Nigeria for West Africa Economic Summit.

Monrovia, Liberia – A team led by President Joseph N. Boakai has left Liberia to attend the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), which will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, from June 20–21, 2025. At the West Africa Economic Summit, heads of state, top government representatives, business executives, and development partners from around the region come together to discuss ways to boost investment, trade, and regional integration.

The conference is a crucial forum for forming alliances and policies that support long-term economic expansion, employment generation, and industrial advancement throughout West Africa.

President Boakai is anticipated to speak at the WAES Forum in Nigeria, where he will outline Liberia’s economic transformation strategy and offer investment possibilities in vital industries including digital innovation, infrastructure, tourism, energy, and agriculture.

In order to further Liberia’s development agenda and establish significant economic ties, he is also expected to engage with other regional leaders, investors, and organizations on a number of bilateral and multilateral levels.

The WAES is being held in accordance with a June 19, 2025, Executive Mansion announcement that states that Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to hold a special summit centered on trade and investment in the region when he chaired ECOWAS in 2023.

On Sunday, June 22, the event will come to a close with the ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State and Government, where leaders will discuss important regional topics such as sustainable development, peace and security, and economic cooperation.

President Boakai is accompanied by government officials to include, Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Magdalene Dagoseh, Minister of Commerce, Alexander Nuetah, Minister of Agriculture, Wilmot Paye,Minister of Mines and Energy, Jerolinmek Piah – Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture and Jeff Blibo – Chairman, National Investment Commission.

Others are, Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of State Without Portfolio for Special Services, Samuel Kofi Woods II, National Security Advisor, Morley Kamara, Senior Economic Advisor to the President, Sekou Dukuly, Managing Director, National Port Authority, Amos Tweh, Managing Director, Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, Christopher Onanuga and Special Envoy for Tourism, Mohammed Bah, Special Envoy for Trade and Investments

While the President is away, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, will chair the Cabinet in consultation with the President via telephone, ensuring continued oversight and coordination of national governance.
