Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s president, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has reiterated the country’s steadfast adherence to the One China policy, calling it a pillar of its foreign policy.
He spoke at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town on Sunday, September 7, 2025, where Liberia joined the PRC in commemorating the 76th anniversary of its establishment and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
President Boakai congratulated President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people in his speech, describing the occasion as a historic milestone that demonstrates the Chinese people’s tenacity, willpower, and accomplishments.
He pointed out that since 1977, Liberia and China have had a close friendship that has yielded real advantages in infrastructure, education, health, and other important areas.
In order to show our shared commitment to greater cooperation for mutual prosperity, we re-elevated our relations to a strategic partnership in September, the Liberian leader stated.
Amb. Boakai emphasized that his government is still dedicated to a foreign policy based on respect for one another, peace, and multilateral collaboration. He stressed that collaborations, whether with China or other foreign allies, must be aimed at promoting a more safe, prosperous, and peaceful world.
President Boakai reiterated the country’s support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity by reaffirming Liberia’s adherence to the One China policy.
