President George Manneh Weah has announced Thursday, June 23 as National Public Service Day and a Working Holiday across the country. The Proclamation requests that the pertinent Government Ministries, Agencies, and Bureaus work with the Civil Service Agency to implement appropriate programs appropriate for the event.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the Day provides the public service with a forum to highlight best practices and innovation, recognize and honor outstanding public sector efforts, and encourage professionalism and honesty in service delivery.

The Proclamation states that Liberia will participate in the celebration of African Public Service Day with other African Union members under the global theme “Building Back Better from COVID-19: Enhancing Innovative Partnerships to Meet the Sustainable Goals” and the continental African theme “The Role of Public Administration in Building and Sustaining Peaceful Coexistence among Communities.”

The press release stated that an indoor program honoring the Day will be held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, Congo Town, Montserrado County, starting at ten o’clock, with Mr. George K. Werner, former Director-General of the Civil Service Agency and subsequently Minister of Education, providing Special Message.

In appreciation of the importance and virtue of service, the African Union announced June 23rd of each year to be African Public Service Day. Member states are encouraged to observe this day.
