ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF THE WAR AND ECONOMIC CRIMES COURT
Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has signed document establishing the office of the War and Economic Crimes Court. on Thursday,May 2, 2024, in the presence of Civil Society Organizations, diplomats, Liberian youth leaders, government officials, the media among others were he signed Executive Order 131 establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, President Boakai said, the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court will judge those who committed heinous crimes during Liberia’s fourteen years bloody civil war that took the lives of over 250,000 people.
The signing of the Executive Order 131 is one step ahead of the establishment of the court after calls by many Liberians, the media, civil society organizations, international organizations and others for the establishment of the court.
The establishment of the court, according to President Boakai, will set as a precedent to others, especially financial crimes. He added that this will bring justice to families to those who were killed during the civil conflict.
