Filoli Estate, San Francisco – A summit meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping was place at the Filoli Estate in San Francisco. The two presidents engaged in a direct and thorough discussion about important global issues impacting peace and development as well as strategic and broad themes that are crucial to the future of China-US ties.
In the era of unprecedented global transformations, President Xi Jinping stated that China and the United States have two choices: either strengthen solidarity and cooperation and work together to address global issues and advance global security and prosperity, or maintain the zero-sum mentality, incite rivalry and conflict, and lead the world towards instability and division.
The two options indicate two distinct paths that will determine how humanity and the planet Earth develop in the future. It is crucial to view and visualise the China-US relationship, which is the most significant bilateral partnership in the world, within this larger framework. It is not an option for China and the US to turn their backs on one another. Redesigning the other by one side is not feasible. Furthermore, confrontation and disagreement have terrible effects on both parties. The issues that China, the US, and the rest of the world are facing cannot be resolved by major-country competition. The world is large enough to support both nations, and the prosperity of one creates an opportunity for the other.
According to a release from the China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Xi Jinping went into further detail regarding China’s development prospects, strategic goal, and the key components of modernization and their relevance. He made the observation that China’s natural logic and dynamics are what propel its development.
Through Chinese modernization, China is fostering the great rejuvenation of the Chinese people on all fronts. China maintained it will neither follow the incorrect route of pursuing hegemony with increasing power or the outdated route of colonisation and pillage. China added its philosophy is not exported, has no intention of overtaking or dethroning the US. In a similar vein, US policies aimed at repressing and containing China are inappropriate.
President Xi Jinping pointed out that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the lessons learned from 50 years of China-U.S. relations as well as the conflicts between major countries in history.
It is suggested that both China and the US should work very hard. Together, the two parties should establish five pillars for China-US relations in San Francisco, adopting a new vision which includes, jointly developing a right perception, jointly managing disagreements effectively, jointly advancing mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly shouldering responsibilities as major countries, jointly promoting people-to-people exchanges.
