Monrovia, Liberia – In commemoration of the lives and achievements of three notable members who have had a major influence on journalism and media practice in Liberia, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) will open a book of condolence this Thursday, February 20, 2025.
The event will start at 10 AM at the PUL offices located on Clay Street in Monrovia. To whom is the book of condolence dedicated?
James C. Dennis, Sr. – Founding father of the PUL, and formerly of Daily Listener, Palm Magazine, and the Liberian Star Newspaper.
Samuel Dweh – Formerly of The Daily Observer and Focus Newspapers.
Joseph Cheeseman – Formerly of BBC World Service Trust, Star Radio, and Radio Veritas.
In a statement signed by its president, Mr. Julius Kanubah, the PUL calls on all Union members, government representatives, the families and friends of the deceased journalists, media colleagues, and the general public to join together in solidarity and remembrance during this trying time.
After their separate funeral rituals on Saturday, February 22, 2025, James C. Dennis, Sr. and Samuel Dweh will be interred apart. Meanwhile, the burial of Joseph Cheeseman is set for March 1, 2025.
The Liberian Press Union sends its deepest sympathies to Dennis, Dweh, and Cheeseman’s families and loved ones in light of their passing.
