Monrovia, Liberia – In an effort to alleviate the acute power shortages that have beset Roberts International Airport (RIA) for years, President Joseph N. Boakai has dedicated and put into service twenty police cars, three Caterpillar generators, and one fire department truck. The CEO of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, made the donations.
At the Robert International Airport dedication and commissioning ceremony on Friday, July 19, 2024, in lower Marigibi, President Boakai stated, “We don’t want history to repeat itself where another airline refuses to land in Robertfield due to a lack of power, with this action, the airport will no longer be in the dark.”
The two generators, one at 110 kV and the other at 1250 kV, will act as essential backup power sources. The Liberian leader claimed that since the end of the civil war, there have been significant maintenance issues. He also said that under his leadership, the airport’s management will make sure that the necessary maintenance is done.
President Boakai added that the airport is a serious place for investors to make investments, stressing that it is not a joke. The President took advantage of the opportunity to thank Engineers and Planners CEO, Dr. Abraham Mahaman for the donations.
