Abel Karama and George Johnson’s strikes in both halves were enough to ensure Samira FC qualified for the semifinals for the winners’ category of the LFA National Third Division Playoffs in Grand Bassa.
They defeated another Montserrado County-based club, Grassroots Athletics Club (GAC FC) in the quarter-finals on Wednesday at the Doris Williams Sports center in Grand Bassa County.
A win for them in the next match will qualify them to the 2nd division as one of the five out of 32 best 3rd clubs to gain automatic promotion to the second league following the climax of the playoffs.
Rivercess FC defeated Grand Gedeh’s Paris FC 3-0 in a post-match penalty following a 2-2 draw in the other winners’ category. Bomi County’s Angels FC also defeated Margibi County’s New Horizon in a dramatic 4-3 penalties showdown. The regular time of play ended 2-2 but they needed a penalty kick to determine who moved to the next stage.
Meanwhile, Paynesville FC marked the second Montserrado County-based club to have qualified to the semifinals following a trashing of Down Town FC by 4-1 in the other quarter-final match.
