Monrovia, Liberia – On Monday, irate football fans who are thought to be from Grand Geedeh County demolished the dugout seats that the previous government had placed at the SKD. Grand Geedeh’s goal from a corner was ruled out for a foul, by Center Referee Josephus Torgilar for which the angry fans claimed to have being cheated.
After a 2-2 draw from the regular time of play plus an additional 30 minutes, Nimba County went on to win 4-2 on post-match penalties. The poor lightning system at the Country Premier Stadium caused the match to be postponed last Saturday.
It is recorded that from May 2020, the SKD Sports Complex was prohibited from holding international events because the stadium did not comply with the new stadium regulations set forth by FIFA and CAF.
Subsequently, a great deal of work was done on the SKD, which included, repairing the referees room, anti-doping room, fire control room, venue operating system control room, medical room, and media center. The home and away dressing rooms were also equipped with seating and hot and cold water faucet showers.
On the other hand, it appears that Liberia may encounter a similar circumstance if precautions are not taken. Monday saw numerous damages as well as other portions of the stadium being impacted.
Given the state of the stadium, a lot of football fans are curious as to whether the semi-finals on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, will proceed as scheduled.
Rivergee will go against Grand Bassa County in the first game of the soccer semifinals, while Nimba County play Lofa County in the second game.
Rivercess will play Bomi in kickball first game, and in the second semifinal, Nimba and Lofa will square off once more.
