CONCERNING ABSENCE OF ESSENTIAL SOCIAL SERVICES

Sanniquellie, Nimba County – On Tuesday, more than two hundred prisoners, including those awaiting trial, launched a protest action at the Sanniquelle Prison in Nimba County. They called for a regular daily meal, an improved prison environment, and humane treatment for all prisoners housed there.

They stated that the prisoners were not housed in a comfortable atmosphere and that the Weah administration had neglected to supply food for the prison. The 75-inmate Sanniquellie Prison Facility was built by the United Nations Mission in Liberia as a quick-impact project.

According to reports from the county, there are more than 100 inmates housed in the facility. Numerous prison facilities across the nation, including the Sanniquelle Prison in Nimba County, have received complaints regarding basic necessities. Due to similar complaints, the prison administration recently stopped the High Court’s ability to transfer new prisoners to the Monrovia Central Prison.
