Monrovia, Liberia – Senator Saah Joseph of Montserrado County has suggested that the government of Liberia approve US$3 million in order to purchase 17 fire vehicles for each of the county’s 17 electoral districts to promptly respond to the county’s increasing number of fire disasters.
Prior to the home of House Speaker Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, which suffered damage to many buildings from fire but no casualties, Senator Joseph, a senior government official home was completely destroyed by fire, including many homes in the country.
Minutes after submitting his communication to the Liberian Senate plenary, the lawmaker addressed legislative reporters on Tuesday, April23, 2024. He stated that, should it be approved, the US$3 million would be used to train fire fighters and major accessories, as well as guarantee the efficient use of those fire trucks in the county.
He declared that the frequent fire tragedies that occur in Liberia, particularly in Montserrado County, constitute a national emergency and that the 55th National Legislature of Liberia must act quickly to implement his suggestion.
The money will be utilized to strengthen the Liberia Fire Service’s ability to combat fire disasters in Montserrado County, according to Senator Joseph, the chair of the Senate Committee on Transport.
The government, he said, needs to act in light of the numerous fire accidents that have occurred around the nation in order to address the concerns of the impacted individuals and put preventative measures in place.
