Shonan Kamakura Hospital Pledges Support to Liberia’s Health Sector.

Kanagawa, Japan – In an effort to strengthen health sector collaboration between Liberia and Japan, one of the top and best-equipped hospitals in Kanagawa, Japan, has promised, through its management, to support Liberia’s healthcare system.

During a brief ceremony on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Dr. Shuzo Kobayashi, Executive Director of Shonan Kamakura General Hospital in Japan, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to promoting international medical collaborations.

The main topics of discussion were how to improve Liberia’s healthcare system by exchanging expertise, providing medical education, and implementing cutting-edge treatment technologies.

With an emphasis on guaranteeing the long-term sustainability of medical treatments, Dr. Kobayashi revealed the hospital’s readiness to collaborate with Liberia in crucial areas like telemedicine, specialty care, staff training, and information transfer.

Speaking as well, Presdent Boakai praised Shonan Kamakura General Hospital’s executive director for the hospital’s prior support of Liberia, namely its provision of dialysis machines and support for the dialysis center at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia.

Noting that the contribution will increased access to crucial care and saved lives in Liberia, the Liberian leader emphasized the importance of building on these successes and the necessity of continuing such initiatives to improve the country’s healthcare system’s quality and accessibility.

President Boakai, however, referred to the visit as a new chapter in Liberia-Japan health cooperation and reassured Dr. Kobayashi and his team of his government’s dedication to creating an environment that supports long-term health partnerships.
