    The two days Mano River Union Conference organized by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Liberia under the theme; Diplomatic, Peace, Security and Democracy has ended in Margibi County-Liberia. The conference which was to discuss issues of security and safety within the union and discuss matters concerning the Republic of Guinea situation saw several diplomatic, security apparatus and others from Mano River Union Countries, including Ambassadors from the US, EU, ECOWAS, and the UN among others.

    Speaking at the closing ceremony, Sierra Leone Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Professor David Francis has praised President George Weah for his visionary leadership for intellectualizing and organizing a two-day Diplomatic, Democracy, Peace, and Security conference amongst member states of the Mano River Union.

    It can be recalled that member states of the Mano River Union including Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ivory Coast assembled and held a special Mano River Union Diplomatic, Peace, Security, and Democracy Conference on the political situation in the Republic of Guinea.

    In a special remark at the climax of the two days conference Amb. Professor Francis noted that President George Weah has played and continues to play a vital role in maintaining peace in Africa security adding winning the peace in Africa particularly in the Mano River sub-region must be a collective effort of all countries.

    According to him, it is important for countries that are part of the MRU to join efforts and unite for the substance of peace in Africa.

    The Mano River is a river in West Africa also called Bewa or Gbeyar, a river rising in the Guinea Highlands northeast of Voinjama, Liberia. With its tributary, the Morro, it forms more than 90 miles (145 km) of the Liberia–Sierra Leone border. It originates in the Guinea Highlands in Liberia and forms part of the Liberia-Sierra Leone border. The Mano River Union (MRU) is an international association initially established between Liberia and Sierra Leone; it was established as an instrument of regional cooperation consisting of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). It was founded in 1973 with two countries, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Guinea joined in 1980. The districts through which the river flows include the Parrot’s Beak area of Guinea, Liberia’s Lofa County, and the Kono and Kailahun District of Sierra Leone.
