Six Opposition Political Parties Officially join ranks with Ruling CDC ahead of 2023 elections

Six Opposition Political Parties have formally allied with the opposition-led Coalition for Democratic Change, which has been renamed the “GRAND COALITION FOR DEMOCRATIC CHANGE,” ahead of the October 10, 2023, legislative and presidential elections.

The chairman of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), Robert Sammy, read the joint motion on behalf of the parties and said that the unprecedented development initiatives that the Liberian Chief Executive has carried out across the nation guided their choice.

The “MOVEE” Chairman reported that the members of the executive committees of the six political parties had met and decided to sign a declaration of membership in the Coalition for Democratic Change and to support His Excellency President George Weah’s successful reelection and campaign as the best president of the Republic of Liberia. According to him, party leaders and party officials have decided to move in accordance with Article 17 of the Liberian Constitution to create the largest political coalition in the country’s history.

He emphasizes that the decision to support President Weah was made jointly and consciously by members of the executive committee during separate committee meetings, noting that political parties are full-fledged members of the Grand Coalition for Democratic Change.
The National Chairman of the CDC, Mulbah K. Morlu, praised officials and party members for making the important choice to merge with the CDC to create the Grand Coalition as he accepted the Joint resolution on behalf of the ruling establishment.

The party’s dedication to making sure that every member is treated equitably, and that the country’s transformation is a top priority was reaffirmed by Chairman Morlu. He pointed out that the Coalition for Democratic Change is 75% certain of winning after the six political groups merged.

The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) of the late Dr. Daniel E. Cassell, the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), the Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), the United People’s Party (UPP), the Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), and Change Democratic Action are the six opposition political parties that formally joined the CDC (CDA).
The event was held on March 11, 2023, on Saturday at the People’s Liberation Party’s headquarters in Congo Town.
