The Monrovia Consolidated School System Teachers Association has given the government of Liberia one week ultimatum to deal with the reduction of public school teacher’s salaries including government pensioners, health workers and civil servant or face civil disobedience.
Addressing a Press conference on Wednesday, November 3,2021, in Monrovia, the President of the Association Augustine Nyormui said, since a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the government of Liberia and the consortium of public sector workers it has been six months without any communication from the government regarding the burning issues.
Mr. Nyormui noted that the association has observed with dismay the inconsistency in teacher, health workers and civil servants monthly salaries as a result of the lack of a stable pay rate from the onset of the Weah led government thereby causing huge salary reduction regularly which poses a serious threat to their famly survival among other issues.
Mr. Nyormui furthered despite the many challenges faced by teachers, the deliberate refusal of this government to regularize teachers’ salaries many of whom are degree-holders from accredited universities and colleges across the country, but are still receiving certificates salaries.
