26 Top Medical Professionals Arrived in Liberia to Provide Medical Assistance.

Monrovia, Liberia – Under the auspices of “Medical Mission 2025,” 26 world-renowned medical specialists have landed in Liberia through the Robert International Airport in an effort to boost the country’s healthcare system.

The leader of the medical mission, Dr. Joseph Sackor, provided an overview of the initiative on Friday, February 21, 2025, during a dinner with President Joseph N. Boakai at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia. He stated that the mission 2025 is a unique presidential endeavor to improve healthcare in Liberia. He stated that the doctors are from Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America.

Dr. Sackor revealed that the initiative was solidified during the President’s recent visit to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly, where he engaged with the leadership of the Liberia Medical Mission and persuaded them to choose Liberia as their next destination for their annual medical outreach.

“As a result of this high-level engagement, the Liberia Medical Mission has committed to deploying a team of 26 highly skilled medical doctors and healthcare professionals from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and Africa to Liberia from February 21st to March 6th, 2025,” he added.

The mission head clarified that the MM2025, which is now being directly coordinated by the President’s Delivery Unit (PDU), would offer comprehensive healthcare services and training programs to Liberia’s public and commercial institutions at no cost.

According to Dr. Sackor, the mission will concentrate on three essential healthcare services in order to enhance medical results and buttress the nation’s healthcare system:

He described a specialist who will operate on cataracts at the Emirates Hospital in Gbarpolu, helping hundreds of blind and visually impaired people from Bomi, Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, and Mountserrado Counties regain their vision.

In order to address psychological wellness and trauma-informed care, Dr. Sackor stated that the mental health specialists will hold training sessions and awareness campaigns for security agencies, schools, and healthcare providers. Patients will also be provided with free medical examinations, consultations, and necessary prescription drugs.

“The 2025 Liberia Medical Mission will offer the following services in addition to its primary target areas: Biomedical Equipment Repair: To guarantee that vital medical gadgets operate at their best, a biomedical engineer will examine, fix, and calibrate diagnostic equipment at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital as well as other significant hospitals and clinics. Distribution of Medical Supplies: Personal protective equipment (PPEs), gloves, needles, linens, CPR, and other necessary medical supplies will be distributed to over 20 clinics and hospitals in Gbarpolu, Cape Mount, Bomi, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado counties,” Dr. Sackor stated

Over US$500,000 worth of medications would be given to patients and hospitals in the chosen counties while they are in Liberia, according to Dr. Sackor’s narration.

President Boakai, for his part, reiterated that his administration is dedicated to improving Liberia’s healthcare system and people’s access to high-quality medical treatment.

The effort, according to the Liberian leader, is in line with his administration’s goal of enhancing public health services and guaranteeing that all Liberians, especially those living in underprivileged areas, have access to specialist medical treatment.

To ensure the success of the 2025 Liberia Medical Mission, President Boakai has directed the President’s Delivery Unit (PDU) to offer complete logistical assistance and coordination.

To further the initiative’s impact, President Boakai has also urged the public, medical professionals, and local stakeholders to work together and assist the Liberia Medical Mission team.
