Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai has promised Margibi University government support in order to uphold excellent academic standards as the institution expands. Speaking Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the third graduation ceremony of the Margibi University in Harbel City, Margibi County, Boakai said as a government, the university can be assurance of his government support.

According to the Liberian leader, the government will keep looking for ways to work with both domestic and foreign partners, including businesses like Firestone and China Union, to make sure Margibi University has the resources to continue offering quality instruction and learning.

President Boakai pledged to assist the university in maintaining its contribution to the economic and educational advancement of Liberia.
The President addressed the graduates, encouraging them to establish high standards for themselves, put forth endless effort to achieve, and never settle for less than the best.

As stated in the Good Book, “Much is expected of those who receive much. Your schooling has provided you with a lot. You’re expected to do a lot now. It is time to go forth and uplift Liberia.”

The Liberian leader also encouraged graduates to constantly appreciate their parents, guardians, instructors, mentors, and friends for their support, adding that they have been instrumental in helping them achieve their goal.

According to President Boakai, everyone experiences difficulties, regardless of wealth or not. He urged the graduates to surround themselves with mentors, seek advice when necessary, and constantly aim to be their best since he believes that success is determined by how you face obstacles, maintain concentration, and stick to your goals.

“Your life’s obstacles shouldn’t determine who you are. How you handle such difficulties is what makes you who you are. You possess the ability to transform challenges into chances. Perseverance, optimism, and an unrelenting quest for advancement are crucial,” he stated.

President Boakai narrated that the leadership the graduates will provide is also important; stating that the world today is marked by uncertainty and transformation, but it is full of possibilities.

President Boakai, “Earning your degree places you in a unique position to help lead Liberia into a future that is prosperous and just.”

“Your graduation today marks not just a personal triumph but also a significant turning point in the continued growth of Margibi University and, in fact, Liberia’s educational system. It is anticipated that the knowledge and abilities you have gained here will form the basis of your contribution to the general welfare,” he said.

President Boakai revealed that in order to guarantee that the university maintains and exceeds the greatest educational standards, the government and its partners must keep funding and supporting it, just as they do for all other higher education institutions in the nation.

According to him, this is the reason the government needs to exercise caution when it comes to the growth of organizations that call themselves universities. President Boakai indicated that a comprehensive procedure based on precise, well-defined standards should be used to certify educational institutions as universities.

“The National Commission on Higher Education and the Ministry of Education must take aggressive action to stop the proliferation of poor universities in this nation as it is unfair and jeopardizes national progress. The children of this country deserve the best,” he declared.

The Liberian leader also praised the university’s staff and administration for a “job well done” and encouraged them to keep working to fulfill their objective in the years to come.
