    U. S. and Liberia sign USD$55 million health partnership deal

     As the number one partner to Liberia, the United States of America has reassured the bilateral between the U.S. and Liberia. After the official launch of the Bicentennial, U.S. Head of Delegation to the Bicentennial Celebrations, the Honorable Dana Banks, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Africa at the National Security Council, in a meeting with Liberian President George Weah, Minister of Health and Foreign Affairs Minister commemorated the longstanding partnership between the United States Government and the Government of Liberia. Ms. Banks also marked the launch of a bilateral agreement of approximately USD$55 million to improve the health of Liberians over the next five years.

    Known as the Health Partnership, the agreement demonstrates the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to strengthening health systems; combatting malaria; advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights; maternal, neonatal, and child health; and accelerating efforts towards universal health coverage.

    “Together, we seek to stimulate the Government of Liberia health systems and improve maternal, newborn and child health, family planning and reproductive health, and malaria service delivery; improve the quality of health services at the point of care; increase institutional access to water, sanitation, and hygiene; and decentralize health governance for marginalized rural populations in focus counties”, Madam Bank noted.

    She noted that the Health Partnership also supports the Government of Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development. Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Foreign Minister, Republic of Liberia signed the agreement deal on behalf of the Liberian government.
