UBA Boss Meets Boakai

Eyes Massive Investment Push In Liberia’s Economy

Monrovia, Liberia – The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the United Bank of Africa Group (UBA), Oliver Alawuba, has reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to expanding investment and supporting Liberia’s economic transformation following a high-level meeting with President Joseph N. Boakai at the Executive Mansion. In an attempt to expand UBA’s presence in Liberia, Alawuba led a seven-person team to the country on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and had strategic talks with the Liberian leader about infrastructure finance, financial inclusion, digital banking, and private sector expansion.

The discussion addressed possible cooperation in important areas such as port growth, energy, digital financial services, and assistance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially women-owned companies, according to a UBA release. “We are willing to partner with the Government of Liberia in more developmental support, prioritize investment in SMEs, and reaffirm our commitment to long-term investment,” Alawuba stated.

The CEO of the UBA Group expressed confidence in Liberia’s long-term economic prospects and commended the government for preserving what he called a business-friendly climate that continues to draw investment and innovation. The visit also demonstrated the increasing collaboration between African governments and financial institutions in promoting regional development and opening up fresh business prospects around the continent.

Alawuba also met with Augustine Ngafuan and Henry Saamoi as part of the engagement to talk about broader economic development plans and banking sector partnerships. The delegation later held a luncheon with key customers and stakeholders. As one of the top financial organizations on the continent, UBA operates in a number of African nations as well as important international financial hubs and is becoming increasingly interested in Liberia’s development plan.
