Monrovia, Liberia – The first combined large WASH Compliance Monitoring effort has been initiated by the National Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Commission in cooperation with important government departments and partners.

According to a press release, the goal of the project is to increase nationwide access to clean water and sanitation services. The National WASH Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, George W.K. Yarngo, spoke at the opening and called it a historic step in the country’s efforts to improve service delivery and public health.

He claimed that the program seeks to promote a culture of excellence that upholds each citizen’s entitlement to clean water and proper sanitation, going beyond mere compliance. Yarngo also urged community people, service providers, and partners to completely embrace the exercise and collaborate in order to achieve universal access to WASH.

Speaking on behalf of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Amos Gborie stressed the importance of water safety for both disease prevention and general public health. According to Gborie, “we track diseases patterns every week, and those trends provide us insight into the type of water that people are drinking.”

He reiterated NPHIL’s dedication to the project, pointing out that the institution has sent out a group of specialists to assist with the drill.

Additionally, Morris Gono Jr., Executive Director of the WASH Commission, expressed his sincere gratitude to Aqualife’s management for organizing the launch event with grace and praised their commitment to enhancing water safety and service delivery.

Hon. Gono also sent his sincere gratitude to the Liberian government, through the Ministry of Finance, for their assistance in making the exercise a reality, pointing out that the funding demonstrates a strong national commitment to regulatory excellence and public health.

“We are here to ensure that the rules are followed, not to shut down water corporations or any other infrastructure, the ED emphasized.” He confirmed that 23 working days will be allotted for the activity.

The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), Ministry of Health (MOH), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Liberia National Police were among the many organizations and stakeholders gathered for the launch to show support for regulatory compliance and public health protection.
